When the Binghamton women’s basketball team hosts New Hampshire on Jan. 26 at 4 p.m., it will also be joining in the fight against pediatric center. Teaming up with Go4thegoal, the Bearcats will take part in its “Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer” campaign.
Binghamton assistant women’s basketball coach Sarah Cartmill has been the Bearcats’ liaison with Go4theGoal and has been instrumental in setting up the campaign at the Events Center.
“Whenever our program has the opportunity to help out and bring attention to a great cause, we love to jump at it,” Cartmill said. “Our players and coaches are looking forward to the chance to bring awareness to the Go4theGoal foundation as well as the opportunity to lend a hand in the fight against Cancer.”
Both Binghamton and New Hampshire (including the coaching staffs) will be wearing gold shoelaces during Saturday’s game. The proceeds from that purchase is going to the foundation. We are trying to raise awareness to the foundation.
“Having the support of Binghamton Women’s Basketball is a great way for the school and players to help change the lives of children battling cancer in their community,” Go4thegoal Director of School Initiatives Erica Bickhart said. “We are thrilled to add them to our growing list of participating teams and excited for them to be the first team to Go Gold in 2013.”
Go4theGoal Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit charitable organization founded in 2006 by Dr. Richard and Beth Stefanacci, soon after their oldest child was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Together with funds raised privately and it’s many unique awareness and fundraising campaigns, including National Dress 4 Pediatric Cancer Day®, Lace-Up 4 Pediatric Cancer® and Richard’s Run® 5K runs, Go4theGoal provides children undergoing cancer treatment and their families with financial assistance, runs fun hospital-based programs, grants special wishes and supplies state-of-the-art electronic products to children and pediatric oncology units in over 40 hospitals across the country.
“Our Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer campaign has helped to increase visibility for children who are bravely battling cancer,” said Beth Stefanacci, Go4theGoal’s Executive Director. “What started as a simple idea by a member of our family, Lace Up quickly became a staple of Go4theGoal’s fundraising efforts, helping us continue our mission of providing support and resources to children affected by cancer, their families, hospitals and researchers so they can grow up to lead healthy, happy lives.”
