VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton women’s lacrosse program announced its 2013 fall schedule, which features nine contests over four weekends. The Bearcats enter their first season under the full tutelage of head coach Stephanie Allen and she has prepared a large fall slate to prepare her team for the 2014 season.
“This is the first time during my tenure that we are participating in five different fall events,” Allen said. “I feel that to effectively prepare us for spring season, we need to have as much competition and exposure to different styles (of play) as we possibly can.”
Binghamton’s schedule includes trips to La Salle, Bucknell and Quinnipiac before hosting its own set of weekend competitions to round out the fall ball season. The Bearcats will also host their annual alumni game over Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The Bearcats begin their fall ball schedule this Saturday, Sept. 28 in Philadelphia where they will face host La Salle (1 p.m.), Monmouth (3 p.m.) and Marist (5 p.m.). All three are recognizable foes as Binghamton has played each team in the past three seasons.
Binghamton heads to Bucknell the following weekend, Saturday, Oct. 5, for a pair of games with the host Bison at 1:30 p.m. and St. Francis (Pa.) at 3 p.m. The Bearcats last faced Bucknell in 2010 when they defeated the Bison 18-7 at home. Last spring, Binghamton fell to St. Francis in its season opener 10-5 on the road.
Allen’s team will make its final road trip of the fall on Saturday, Oct. 19 when the Bearcats head to Connecticut to play host Quinnipiac (1:45 p.m.) and Bryant (2:50 p.m.). Binghamton last faced Quinnipiac in 2007 and has never played Bryant during its Division I tenure.
Binghamton’s final weekend of competition will be at home in the friendly confines of the Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday, October 26. The Bearcats welcome fellow New York State rivals Marist and Siena for a pair of matchups at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. Binghamton hosted both squads last spring, falling to Marist 11-6 before defeating Siena 10-7.
“This fall will be a great time for us to develop chemistry and give our young team the opportunity to grow in this new environment.” Allen noted.
Binghamton graduated eight seniors last spring, its largest class in program history, and returns just five starters to the 2014 squad. Allen welcomed 11 newcomers to her team in August, one of the program’s largest recruiting classes ever.
