LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Binghamton women’s lacrosse team bounced back from two straight defeats with a 16-11 victory over Siena, Thursday afternoon from the Siena Turf Field. The Bearcats (5-3) won its fifth game of the season to tie the program record for wins set by the 2008 squad. Binghamton is now 2-1 against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents in 2014.

“We played with a lot of fight today,” head coach Stephanie Allen said. “I told the team today was an opportunity to respond and we did that. I couldn’t be more proud of this team. This group is working hard and couldn’t be more deserving (of the record), but we have a lot more to prove to everybody.”

Binghamton registered seven different goal scorers led by the freshmen duo of Callon Williams and Bri Arthur who combined for nine goals. Williams netted her first career hat trick with five goals while Arthur upped her team-high goal total to 26 with four goals. Junior Alex Fisher and sophomore Sophia Racciatti each netted two goals for the Bearcats. Racciatti recorded her fourth five-point game of the season adding three assists to her two goals.

“We were really excited to see Callon (Williams) healthy and display what she is capable of,” Allen said. “Bri continues to be a consistent threat for us and it’s great to watch her develop as the season progresses.”

Up two at the break, Arthur netted back-to-back goals in the second half’s first three minutes to extend Binghamton’s lead to four, 11-7. Siena responded with a pair of goals, but two Williams goals ignited a 3-0 run to hand Binghamton its largest lead of the game, 14-9. The Saints were unable to pull any closer than four over the final 13 minutes as junior goalie Kara Pafumi allowed just four goals in relief of starter Erin McNulty.

“Kara did an outstanding job for us in the second half,” Allen continued. “She gave us the opportunity to get the ball back in the hands of our offense. She really stepped up with seven big saves.”

Binghamton utilized an extremely efficient offense scoring 16 goals on 24 shots. The Bearcats were also a perfect 5-for-5 in free position attempts during the first half.

Binghamton closed the first half on a 4-1 run sparked by a pair of Williams’ goals to take a 9-7 lead into the break. The high scoring opening 30 minutes witnessed six ties and four lead changes as three different Bearcats netted two first-half goals. Binghamton opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest with a Racciatti goal, but Siena responded with two straight goals to take its first lead.

After the two teams traded jabs, a Jocelyn Penteck goal gave the Bearcats a 5-3 lead with 16:48 to go in the half. Siena answered with a 3-0 spurt to take a 6-5 advantage, but back-to-back goals by Williams pulled the Bearcats back ahead. Fisher and Arthur combined for a pair goals during the final 1:48 to secure a two-goal halftime advantage.

Siena won the ground ball battle 23-11 and controlled the draw circle winning 19 of the 28 draw controls. However, Pafumi (seven saves) and McNulty combined for 10 saves to stymie the Siena offense.

Binghamton completes its three-games-in-one-week stretch on Sunday, March 23 at noon against Quinnipiac at the Bearcats Sports Complex. It will mark the third straight game against a MAAC opponent for the Bearcats.
