Women’s Lacrosse Places Pair On IWLCA Academic Honor Roll
Hunsberger, Mahoney earned recognition for prowess in classroom

VESTAL, N.Y. – Seniors Katherine Hunsberger and Isabelle Mahoney of the women’s lacrosse team were honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for outstanding performances in the classroom. The duo became the 12th and 13th players named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll following the 2012 season.
“Isabelle (Mahoney) and Katherine (Hunsberger) are outstanding examples of successful student-athletes,” head coach Tony Zostant said. “As a head coach its always great to have student-athletes who understand the importance of balancing academics and athletics. I’m proud of the dedication and efforts put forth by these two players.”
The IWLCA honored 173 student-athletes from 56 different institutions for their academic excellence. All student-athletes were nominated by theirs schools, achieved at least junior status academically and a GPA of 3.20 or higher.
Hunsberger, an integrative neuroscience major, had a breakout year last season scoring a career-high 34 goals, more than quadruple her output in 2011. The senior from Cortland, N.Y. led Binghamton with 51 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers from her midfielder position. Hunsberger, who started all 16 games last spring, was named to the America East All-Academic Team and the conference’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll to add to her list of academic accolades.
Mahoney, an economics major, played in 15 games for Binghamton in 2012, starting five at the defender position. The senior from Shoreham, N.Y. picked up 11 ground balls and caused five turnovers during her third season with the Bearcats. In addition to being named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, Mahoney earned America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition for a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Binghamton has placed a pair of student-athletes on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the third straight year and sixth time overall. This past spring 14 women’s lacrosse players were named to the America East Honor Roll. As a team, Binghamton earned a 3.02 GPA following the 2011-12 academic year.
