The women’s tennis team was recently recognized by the ITA for their excellence in the classroom over the past academic school year. The Bearcats were honored as an ITA All-Academic team after achieving a cumulative team GPA of 3.54 in 2012-13. In addition, a pair of student-athletes were named as ITA Scholar-Athletes- Katherine Medianik and Jessie Rubin.
Binghamton is one of 127 Division I women’s tennis programs to earn this academic distinction in 2013. Their academic nod by the ITA is the second time they have made the cut, joining the 2006 squad.
This year marks the first time in program history that a pair of players have been selected as ITA scholar-athletes. Rubin, who graduated this May, qualified for this achievement by accruing a GPA of over 3.50 as a senior. The former English Rhetoric major made her mark on the campus and community during her four years at Binghamton, culminating as one of the undergraduate commencement speakers at graduation this spring.
Joining her is Katherine Medianik who also was an America East All-Academic selection earlier this season. Medianik wrapped up her sophomore campaign with four singles victories, earning herself a spot on the America East first team all-conference singles squad.
BU finished the 2012-13 season with a dual match record of 5-17, but advanced to their 12th straight semifinals of the America East tournament. Binghamton will begin their fall tournament schedule beginning on September 13 at the Cornell Fall Invite.
