Binghamton, N.Y.—Binghamton (1-3) fell to Fordham 4-2 on Sunday from the Binghamton Tennis Center in a makeup match that was originally scheduled for last Saturday. Sophomore Sara Kohtz collected one of BU’s three wins on the day, improving to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in duals this season.
The Bearcats secured the morning’s first victory with an 8-3 doubles win from sophomores Shea Brodsky and Alexis Tashiro. However, Fordham bounced back from their top two spots with a pair of victories to claim the 1-0 team lead. With the team score now at 2-0, freshman Annie DiMuro turned in an impressive straight set win. The Chester, N.J. native won 6-2, 6-1 at the four spot for BU and is now 2-2 in dual matches in 2014.
Binghamton evened the score at 2-2 with Kohtz’s victory, a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) triumph over junior Sarah Ali. The Chicago native is 2-1 from the second spot in BU’s lineup this season.
A lengthy three-set match that went Fordham’s way gave the visitors momentum as they picked up another win from the fourth spot in their lineup. The only match to not finish on Sunday was between Binghamton’s Agatha Ambrozy and Fordham’s Bella Genkina. The two were only able to finish the first set, a 6-2 advantage for Genkina.
Binghamton is busy this upcoming weekend, with three matches on the slate. On Friday, they match up with Niagara on the road and travel to nearby Buffalo the following day. They wrap things up at Colgate on Sunday at 1 p.m.
