Ithaca, N.Y.—The Binghamton women’s tennis team will kick off their fall season beginning on Friday at the Cornell Fall Invitational. The Bearcats return six letterwinners for the 2013-14 campaign, including three all-conference performers from a season ago. Additionally, head coach Libby McGovern has added five freshmen to the program this fall.
The Cornell Invitational features five other teams, of which include: Akron, Albany, Cleveland State, Lehigh and hosts Cornell. Three out of the six schools competing over the weekend had winning dual match records in 2012-13 (Cornell, Akron and Cleveland State). BU finished their spring season with a record of 5-17 in dual match play, making their 12th straight appearance in the semifinals of the America East conference tournament.
The field will be split up into three singles and two doubles brackets. The tournament will take place at Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca through Sunday. Depending on weather, play can take place either on the outdoor or indoor facilities on the campus of Cornell University.
