Women’s Tennis Loses To UMBC and Temple Over Weekend

Philadelphia, PA—Temple defeated visitors Binghamton 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at TU Pavilion. The Owls (9-13) grabbed the doubles point and nabbed five of six singles matches over the Bearcats who fall to 4-16 on the season. Freshman Sara Kohtz picked up BU’s lone point by rallying in the third and final set past Rebecca Breland. Kohtz beat Temple’s best dual player (14-5) with the 6-3,0-6,6-4 triumph Sunday.

With the match on Sunday coming to a close, Binghamton turns its attention to the America East championship. BU travels to Baltimore, Maryland for the three day event which begins on April 26 at the UMBC Tennis Complex.

Baltimore, MD—Binghamton (4-15) fell on the road Saturday at the UMBC Tennis Complex to the Retrievers 5-2. UMBC (3-14) swept all three doubles matches and took the first four singles decisions, headlined by Madlena Kurasz’s three set victory from the fifth spot. The match concluded Binghamton’s regular season schedule against America East competition, finishing with a 1-3 record versus the conference.

Sophomore Katherine Medianik won her second straight singles match on Saturday with a hard fought 6-3,7-6 (8-6) triumph. Freshman Sara Kohtz continued her stellar play with another victory on the singles court, improving her team-best record to 8-8 in duals and 12-12 overall. She has won four of her last five matches for the Bearcats.

On Sunday, BU heads to Philadelphia, PA to take on Atlantic-10 school Temple. The Owls are 4-1 all-time versus Binghamton and enter Sunday with a record of 8-13.
