Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Hartford 4-0 In AE Tournament Opener
Three-seeded Bearcats (10-12) square off with UMBC Saturday at 10 a.m.

Flushing, NY—Third seeded Binghamton advanced in the first round of the America East championship with a 4-0 victory over sixth seed Hartford Friday afternoon at the UTSA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. The Bearcats, who defeated Hartford 7-0 last weekend, continued their dominance over the Hawks by winning each and every match, including the four wins necessary to advance.
The variety of newcomers and veterans picked up the first point for Binghamton on the doubles court. The freshman duo of Taylor Hollander/Missy Edelblum and seniors Jillian Santos/Emma Leibowicz each secured 8-0 victories heading into singles play. Hollander improved her record to 12-12 on the season with the win and Santos tallied her team-leading 17th victory in doubles play.
From there, Edelblum got things rolling with a straight set 6-0, 6-1 victory at the no. 6 position. Senior Marina Bykovskaya followed suit with an identical straight set victory to put the three seed ahead 3-0. Freshman Katherine Medianik sent the Bearcats ahead with yet another 6-0, 6-1 victory securing their 11th straight AE semifinals appearance.
“I thought we came out and played well today,” head coach Libby McGovern said. “It’s always good to get a win under your belt here in the conference tournament. We are excited for the challenge of playing UMBC in the next round and hopefully we can keep the momentum going from this afternoon.”
The Bearcats as mentioned earlier will square off with the second seed UMBC Retrievers Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m..The other semifinal match up will feature Boston and Stony Brook.
