VESTAL, N.Y.—With a combined GPA of 3.19 over the 2011-12 academic school year, the Binghamton women’s tennis team earned the highest mark among all America East schools (women’s tennis programs only) as announced by the conference Wednesday evening. As a whole, Binghamton finished fourth in the America East’s Academic Cup Standings with a cumulative GPA of 3.11. Both men’s soccer (3.16) and men’s tennis (3.50) also earned high honors for the Bearcats who eclipsed the 3.10 mark for the fourth consecutive year.
“I’m very proud of my team for this accomplishment,” second-year head coach Libby McGovern said. “It’s a testament to how hard they worked balancing their time not only on the tennis court where they competed at a high level, but also in the classroom.”
Academically, Binghamton was led by senior all-academic member Marina Bykovskaya, who earned a team-high 3.72 GPA in marketing. Bykovskaya’s selection was her third consecutive and the eighth overall selection for BU in 11 years of America East competition. The Bearcats wrapped up their season with a 10-13 record and made their way to their 11th straight semifinals of the conference tournament before falling to UMBC in straight sets.
