Vestal, NY— After falling behind 2-0 to visiting UMBC (6-10) early, the Binghamton women’s tennis team rallied to secure a 4-3 dual match win over the Retrievers on Saturday afternoon from the tennis courts at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Sophomore Shea Brodsky’s 6-4,6-4 win at fourth singles clinched the match for the Bearcats who improved to 6-9 overall and 2-0 against America East competition.

UMBC got off to a quick start early Saturday morning, tallying a pair of 8-2 doubles victories to pick up the match’s first team point. In singles competition, their top singles spot won in straight sets to put BU in a 2-0 hole. However, Binghamton was resilient in their comeback effort, winning the next four matches in straight sets.

Junior captain Katya Medianik got the ball rolling with a 6-4,6-3 win over Madlena Kurasz at second singles. Medianik, who is now 10-16 overall this season, is an even 2-2 at the second spot in BU’s lineup.

Sophomore Agatha Ambrozy followed suit with her straight set triumph, besting Adriana Aldunte 6-4,6-5 to even the team tally at two points apiece. Ambrozy continues her spectacular spring season, elevating her record to 10-3 in duals and a perfect 5-0 from sixth singles in 2014.

Sara Kohtz put the hosts up one with her hard fought 6-3,6-4 victory over UMBC’s Dolashvili. Kohtz is now tied with freshman Annie DiMuro for the team lead in wins this season with 16. Brodsky sealed the Bearcats’ sixth victory of the season with her third straight singles win and fifth in the last seven outings. She is now 7-8 in dual competition this spring.

Up next for Binghamton is a matchup with SUNY rival Albany on Sunday afternoon. The Great Danes are 9-10 on the season, most recently losing to Stony Brook 6-0 in Albany on Friday.
