Women’s Tennis Loses Opener To Army
Kohtz picks up team-leading ninth singles win of season

West Point, N.Y.—The Binghamton University women’s tennis team lost their dual match opener on Friday to hosts Army at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights defeated BU by a total team score of 5-2, winning seven out of a possible nine matches.
After failing to pick up a win in doubles, the Bearcats secured victories from the third and sixth spots in their singles lineup. Sophomore Sara Kohtz, who had a spectacular tournament season leading up to Friday, continued her stellar play on the singles court. She won a thrilling three-setter, defeating sophomore Gabriella Spindler, 6-4,4-6,10-6. With the victory, she now has a team-leading nine singles victories in the 2013-14 season.
The Bearcats first win of the evening came from sophomore Agatha Ambrozy in the sixth spot in BU’s lineup. Ambrozy won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 and evens her singles record to 2-2 this season.
Freshman Annie DiMiro and junior captain Katya Medianik both lost competitive three set matches on Friday, DiMuro bested 10-6 from the fifth spot and Medianik beaten in a close one, 10-7, in top singles.
Binghamton is back in action tomorrow from West Point as they take on Sacred Heart beginning at 4 p.m.. They wrap up their weekend on Sunday, squaring off with Seton Hall on the campus of Army at 8 a.m..
