Vestal, NY—Binghamton (3-12) was unable to hold on Wednesday afternoon, losing 4-3 to visiting Fairleigh Dickinson (6-5) at the Events Center. The Bearcats’ 3-1 lead was erased on three straight singles wins from FDU, including the clinching win at fifth singles.
Freshman Alexis Tashiro, Sara Kohtz and Shea Brodsky were all bright spots in the loss. Tashiro picked up an impressive 6-4,6-2 straight set win over Egzona Morina, Kohtz secured her team-high fifth dual singles victory in a 6-2, 6-3 rout and Brodsky gutted out a decisive 7-5 triumph in the second set. All three players picked up their first career wins at their respective spot in the lineup Wednesday.
Sophomore Katherine Medianik fell in heartbreaking fashion, losing in three sets to FDU’s Anna Rapoport (3-6, 7-5, 6-2). In a match that lasted nearly two hours, Rapoport was able to take the final two sets after dropping the first. BU lost at sixth singles, and finally at the fifth position (both in straight sets).
In doubles, Missy Edelblum and Sara Kohtz fought their way to an 8-6 triumph over the Knights. Unfortunately for the hosts, FDU bounced back with a pair of narrow 9-7 victories to claim the first team point. For Edelblum and Kohtz, this marked the third time they have won together as a team in dual match competition.
The Bearcats look to get back into the win column against conference foe Albany on Friday. The match is set for 2 pm in Albany, NY. The following morning, Binghamton hosts both Stony Brook (9 am) and Hartford (3 pm) outside on the newly renovated tennis facility.
