Wrestling climbs to No. 22 in national poll

VESTAL, N.Y.—Undefeated Binghamton wrestling (7-0) bumped up to No. 22 in the latest NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll, released on Tuesday. The Bearcats are tied with Virginia in the rankings, and sit ahead of No. 24 Penn and No. 25 Edinboro to round out the top 25.

In the weekly individual rankings, WIN Magazine has given BU two top-5 ranked wrestlers for the first time in program history. Junior 149-pound Donnie Vinson is No. 4 and senior 157-pound Justin Lister is No. 5. Vinson (15-2) is coming off a runnerup showing at the Penn State Nittany Lion Open on Sunday and is Binghamton’s Athlete of the Week for the second straight week. Vinson is No. 7 in this week’s Intermat poll. Lister is 11-1 with a team-high seven pins. He is No. 6 in the Intermat rankings. Both wrestlers are a perfect 7-0 in duals.

Binghamton heads to Nevada for the Reno Tournament of Champions on December 18 before resuming its dual schedule with a key matchup against longtime rival Buffalo on January 2 in Western New York.
