VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton wrestling held its position of No. 19 in this week’s NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll heading into the team’s final dual of the season. The Bearcats (14-4) will face CAA rival and No. 23 Old Dominion Friday night at West Gym. Three of Binghamton’s four losses have come against programs currently in the top-12 (No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Cornell and No. 12 Oklahoma).
Junior 149-pound Donnie Vinson was selected as the CAA Wrestler of the Week. Ranked No. 4 in the nation, Vinson ran his record to 29-4 overall, 17-1 in duals with two dominating wins during the week. Vinson posted a 14-1 major decision over a 29th-ranked foe from Bloomsburg and then in the Bearcats’ 24-12 win over CAA rival Hofstra, Vinson roared to a 9-1 major decision over the 24th-ranked wrestler. In three years, Vinson is 53-8 in duals and is on the verge of his third straight NCAA Championship berth.
In Friday’s Senior Night festivities, BU will honor its three outgoing seniors: Matt Kaylor, Justin Lister and Mike McKeever. With 109 career wins, Kaylor has the second-highest total during the program’s 10-year Division I history. He is a two-time NCAA qualifier, CAA champion (2011) and is currently ranked No. 25 in the NCAA Coaches’ Panel Ranking. Lister was a 2010 All-American after his remarkable fourth-place showing as an unseeded wrestler at the NCAA Championship. He is on the verge of joining Kaylor in the 100-win club, sitting on 99 entering the ODU match. Lister is a two-time NCAA qualifier and is currently ranked No. 9 in the nation. McKeever is a four-year letterwinner who has been a valuable team member and role model in and out of the practice room.
