CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Binghamton University’s freshman diver Devin Zdanowski was named America East Male Diver of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. It is the second conference honor for Zdanowski this season, who was also recognized back on November 22.
“We’re fortunate to have such a dedicated and powerful diver who’s at the top of his game as we close out the season,” head coach Sean Clark said. “Devin’s (Zdanowski) been a key athlete for us all year long.”
Last weekend, against America East and SUNY rival Stony Brook, Zdanowski won each of the diving events. He scored a 290.48 on the three-meter board to secure his first victory, and then recorded a total of 277.65 in the meter dive to take home the sweep.
“Devin has been working on a lot of changes in his hurdle and take-off positions throughout the season,” said diving coach Reuben Rappe. “It is very difficult to make those changes in competitions and Devin is doing a great job of that. It is nice to see that he is putting all of the pieces together, especially leading into our conference championships.”
The pair of victories gave Zdanowski seven first-place finishes on the season. He has dominated the meter board of late, winning the event in four of the last five Binghamton dual meets. Zdanowski is currently seeded second behind UMBC’s Andrew Eckhoff in both diving events for the America East Championships later this month.
NOTE: Zdanowski holds both Binghamton freshmen records for the diving events. Against Marist he set the meter board record with a 298.95 and versus Colgate he set a new standard in the three-meter dive with a score of 318.30. Each score was just shy of qualifying for the Zone Championships. Qualifying scores for the meter dive and three-meter dive are 300 and 320, respectively.
