van Ingen became the first Binghamton runner ever to qualify
for the NCAA Division I championships, highlighting the Bearcats'
showing at the Northeast Regional Meet on Nov. 14 at Franklin
Park. In the team standings, Binghamton was a program-best eighth
out of 36 teams in the men's race.
After
capturing the America East individual title two weeks ago, van
Ingen finished seventh overall (out of 243 runners) on Saturday.
He covered the 10,000-meter course in a time of 31:17. In the
process, van Ingen becomes just the third runner from any America
East Conference school to qualify for the NCAA Championships
in the last 10 years and the first since Jochen Dikefoss of Boston
University made four consecutive trips from 2000-03.
van Ingen is also the first Binghamton runner to qualify for
the NCAA Cross Country Championships at any Division level since
Art Gunther made three straight appearnaces appearances at the
Division III meet from 1990-92. Binghamton moved up to the NCAA
Division II level in 1998 and the NCAA Division I level in 2001.
The
NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championship will hosted
by Indiana State University on Monday, Nov. 23. The meet, which
starts with the men's race at noon, will be televised live on
Versus.

McDonough became the fastest Bearcat to reach the 1,000 career
kills plateau this past weekend. McDonough accomplished the feat
in just her 300th career set on Friday night at Stony Brook.
McDonough currently ranks sixth on the career kills list at Binghamton.

| Men's cross country team
The
Binghamton men's cross country team captured its first-ever America
East championship on Saturday. With eight runners in the top
21, the Bearcats ran away from the field, which included three-time
defending champion New Hampshire. Junior Erik
van Ingen won the men's individual title as Binghamton became
the first America East men's cross country team in nine year
to sweep both the individual and team championships.

Emily
Pape scored another big goal for the Bearcats, who clinched
regular-season runnerup honors in the America East. Pape netted
her conference-best third game-winner as BU kocked off host New
Hampshire 1-0 on Sunday. It was her team-high fourth goal in
conference play and earned her AE Rookie of the Week honors for
the second time in three weeks.

Vloedgraven made school history by capturing the prestigious
ITA Northeast Regional singles championship with six consecutive
wins. Vloedgraven rolled through the 128-man singles draw, beating
opponents from Cornell and Yale in the semifinals and finals.
He now advances to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship
Novembver 5-8 at Yale.

Pape led the surging Bearcats to a pair of wins last week,
netting the game-winning goal in victories over Hartford and
Maine. Pape, a two-time America East Player of the Game this
season, has scored goals in three consecutive games. She was
also selected as the America East Rookie of the Week.

van Ingen made the most of his first race of the cross country
season, finishing 17th at the prestigious Lehigh/Paul Short Run.
In a field of 386 runners, van Ingen covered the 8,000-meter
course in a time of 24:03. In the process, he recorded the highest
finish ever by a Binghamton runner at the Paul Short Run. Last
season, van Ingen placed a then program-best 42nd (out of 298
runners).The Binghamton men placed a program-best 11th out of
42 teams in the Gold Race.

Senior goalkeeper Jason
Stenta recorded a pair of shutout victories this past week.
Against Cornell he stopped seven shots and made a diving save
on a penalty kick as the Bearcats won 2-0. Against Niagara on
Sunday, Stenta made five more saves as Binghamton took a 4-0
decision. For his career, he now has a program-best 35 shutouts.

Junior golfer Jake
Katz was runnerup out of 72 golfers at the St. Bonaventure
Keenan Invitational, leading the Bearcats to a third-place team
finish. He fired a 2-under 68 in the opening round at Bartlett
CC and finished with a 1-over 71 in the final round. His first-round
score tied for the fourth-lowest in the tournament's history.
Katz currently leads BU with a 74.2 scoring average.

Graduate student Chris
Gaube won the men's individual title, highlighting Binghamton's
performance at its home cross country invitational on Saturday
afternoon. Gaube's win came against a Columbia squad which placed
third at last season's NCAA Northeast Regional Championships.
He covered the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:48. It was
Gaube second career invitational win, with the other coming at
last season's Baltimore Metro Meet.His time was the fourth-fastest
performance on the Binghamton course since the program moved
up to the NCAA Division I level in 2001.

Kucharski (Endwell, N.Y./Maine Endwell) tallied a career-high
three assists in Binghamton's 3-2 win over Syracuse on Sept.
1. The three assists is the most by a Binghamton player since
the program moved up to the Division I level in 2001. Although
he was not credited with an assist, it was Kucharski's free kick
in overtime that eventually led to Binghamton's game winner against
Colgate four days later.

Anna
Lejina was named the America East Player of the Week and
also to the Hofstra/Asics Invitational All-Tournament team this
past weekend. Lejina posted 3.64 kills and 1.73 digs per set
on the weekend. In a five-set match against Rhode Island, she
slammed 21 kills and grabbed a career-high 11 digs. She helped
BU go 2-1 on the weekend, good for second place at the tournament. |
