BU Athletics to host "Bobby Gonzales on the Green" on June 4

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Binghamton native and current Seton Hall men's basketball coach Bobby Gonzales will be the featured speaker at a BU athletic department fundraiser on Wednesday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Events Center. Entitled "Bobby Gonzales on the Green," the event will serve as a kickoff for the 19th Annual BUAC/United Auto Supply Golf Tournament, which will be held the following day at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin.

Gonzales, who is entering his third season as the head coach at Seton Hall, grew up in the Binghamton area. He graduated from and played basketball for Binghamton North High School. After earning his bachelor's degree from Buffalo State College in 1986, Gonzales returned home and was an assistant coach at nearby Broome Community College during the 1986-87 season. The following year, he was an assistant coach at Binghamton, when the program was still competing at the Division III level.

In addition to Gonzales, the June 4 celebrity fundraising mixer will include appearances by national pole vault champion Rory Quiller and Binghamton head men's basketball coach Kevin Broadus. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and there will be a cash bar. In addition, there will also be a silent auction and a raffle prize board.

"Bobby's been a terrific success story in college basketball, and his best years are still in front of him," Binghamton Athletic Director Joel Thirer said. "We're grateful to have him return to his hometown and share some of his experiences with us, while helping support Binghamton's athletic program."

Tickets for the event are $30 per person and are available by calling 607-777-4558. This event is open to the public and participation in the golf tournament is not required to attend the mixer.
