STONY BROOK, N.Y.--The Binghamton University baseball team (21-20, 8-10 America East) was defeated 10-0 by host Stony Brook (25-24, 10-9 AE) in a key conference game Friday afternoon. With the loss, BU now needs to sweep the Seawolves in Saturday's scheduled doubleheader to seize the fourth and final playoff spot in the upcoming America East playoffs.

Friday's nine-inning contest was all Stony Brook, as the Seawolves plated four runs in the opening inning and added single runs in the second and fourth innings to take control. Binghamton, meanwhile, couldn't muster anything at the plate, managing only four hits for the game and striking out eight times. The lone offensive bright spot was junior shortstop Keith Ford (Broken Arrow, Okla.), who went 2-for-3 with a double.

Binghamton starting pitcher David Lind (San Mateo, Calif.) had to leave the game in the second inning with a back injury, and BU relievers couldn't slow down Stony Brook's hitting. The Seawolves rapped 13 hits, including a pair of home runs.
