Binghamton baseball adds right-handed pitcher to core of 2008 recruits

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton head baseball coach Tim Sinicki has continued his 2008 recruiting with the signing of 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed pitcher Walker McKinven (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier HS). McKinven joins the eight recruits that Sinicki signed last week.

McKinven helped lead his New Trier scholastic team to a 32-8 record last spring. He went 2-0 and led the team in appearances. The school advanced to the state championship round of 16 and was ranked as high as No. 6 in the state.

Illinois Prep Baseball Report ranked McKinven No. 72 in its Class of 2007. He also was rated an 8.5 out of 10 by Perfect Game USA, the world's largest scouting report service, which offered the following evaluation:

"Slender build...lively arm...3/4 arm slot...high leg quickly...good extension...late lift on fastball, topped out at 88 mph...short quick arm, tight slider with good depth...throws both pitches for strikes...bulldog."

McKinven held down a 3.53 earned run average for the Wilmette Waves Legion team over the summer.
