BU baseball adds infielder from New Jersey to recruiting class

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton baseball coach Tim Sinicki has added an eighth high school senior to his 2009 recruiting class. Set to join the Bearcats in the fall is versatile scholastic infielder Michael Thompson (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon).

Thompson is a 2009 UnderArmour Preseason All-American for Hunterdon Central, which captured a New Jersey Group IV state title last spring. In the summer, Thompson played for a team that finished fifth at the Babe Ruth World Series. He led the team in RBI (51), slugging (.991), on-base percentage (.536), doubles (11), triples (9) and total bases (112).

In addition, he was named one of the top three infielders at the 2008 Team One North Showcase.

"Mike is a hard-nosed, gritty, kind of player who will fit right into our program," Sinicki said. "He provides us a tremendous amount of flexibility by being able to play both the right side and left side of the infield."

The two-time reigning America East regular season champion Bearcats begin their 2009 season with a three-game set against Dallas Baptist on February 20-21.
