Binghamton signs junior college transfer

VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton baseball team has received a national letter of intent from Mark Messina (Rochester, N.Y.), a junior college transfer from Monroe Community College. He will join the Bearcats next year for his junior season.

This season, Messina has been Monroe’s top starter. He currently has a 2-0 record and a 2.20 ERA. In 14 innings of work, he has struck out 11 batters. Earlier this season, he led Monroe to a defeat of perennial national power Miami-Dade Community College.

"We are very excited to have mark join our University and our baseball program,” said Binghamton head baseball coach Tim Sinicki. “We plan to insert him as a weekend pitcher immediately. He is a big, strong young man who throws a fastball consistently in the upper 80s.”
