Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

VESTAL, N.Y. — Junior catcher Luke Carlin went 2-for-3 and scored twice in the first game, and sophomore third baseman Nick Graves drilled the decisive two-run home run in the second game, lifting Northeastern (15-13, 4-8 AE) to a doubleheader sweep of Binghamton (14-23, 7-5 AE) in America East Conference baseball action today. The visiting Huskies won the first game 5-0 and outlasted the Bearcats in the nightcap, winning 9-7 in 14 innings.

After three scoreless innings of game one, Northeastern scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning and plated single runs in each of the final three frames. Carlin scored on a throwing error in the fourth inning and on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Senior pitcher Ken Henry went the distance for Northeastern, tossing a four-hit shutout while striking out four batters.

In the nightcap, Binghamton’s bats came out swinging, as it scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 advantage. Junior catcher Kyle Loucks (Johnson City, N.Y.) had the key hit with a RBI single. Northeastern, however, tied the game a 2-2 in the top of the third inning on a RBI groundout by Carlin.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, it appeared as if Northeastern was two outs away from finishing the game, as it held a slim 6-5 advantage. It was then, however, that Loucks struck again, drilling a single to tie the game at 6-6. The Bearcats nearly won the game one batter later, but junior outfielder Tony Berube (Vestal, N.Y./ Keystone College) was called out on a close play at home plate.

After seven more scoreless innings, Northeastern went up 7-6 in the top of the 14th inning, when freshman infielder Miguel Paquette scored on a throwing error. One batter later, Graves delivered his decisive blast. Binghamton got a run back in the bottom of the 14th inning and had the winning run at the plate with two outs, but the Huskies held on for the win.

Offensively, the Bearcats were led in the second game by sophomore first baseman Jamie Boyer (Lancaster, Pa./ Manheim Township) who went 3-for-4 with a home run and scored twice. Loucks went 3-for-6 with three RBI.
