VESTAL, N.Y.– Former Binghamton University pitcher Khalid Afify (Binghamton, N.Y..) has signed a professional contract with the Sussex Skyhawks of the independent Can-Am League.

Afify pitched two scoreless innings of relief in his pro debut on July 2. In Sussex's 5-2 loss to Ottawa, Afify entered in the eighth inning and finished the game, allowing two hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

At Binghamton, Afify compiled nine wins and six saves in his four-year career. He was an all-conference closer as a junior and as a senior, finished his collegiate tenure by allowing just one earned run in his final 8.2 innings of work.

Afify is the 16th Binghamton player to sign a professional contract - and 10th in the last two years.
