America East Release

On the heels of an undefeated week that featured major offensive firepower, Binghamton baseball players Jay Balback (Millsboro, Del.) and Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa.) have been honored by the America East Conference. Balback, a senior third baseman, was named Player of the Week, and Hitchcock, a freshman first baseman/designated hitter, was selected as Rookie of the Week for the second straight week.

Balback enjoyed an outstanding week, hitting .667 with 14 hits and 14 RBI in four games. He belted five home runs, upping his season total to a conference-best nine, and also stretched his hit streak to 10 games. Balback's 22 career home runs is a new school record. He ranks first in the conference in home runs (9), doubles (12) and slugging percentage (.878), second in batting average (.422) and third in RBI (30).

Hitchcock hit .526 for the week, collecting a home run and nine RBI in the four games. He also extended his team-best hit streak to 12 games. He ranks second to Balback in the league for doubles (0.39 per game) and is hitting .407 in his last 13 games.
