Immediate Release: July 6, 2005
VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton University junior third baseman Mathieu Bergeron (St. Celestin, Quebec) has been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Rawlings All-Northeast Region team after a record-setting 2005 season. He was placed on the second team and was one of just two players from the America East to earn regional recognition.
Bergeron, the conference player of the year, hit .318 with school records of 16 home runs, 55 RBI and a .659 slugging percentage in 50 games this spring. His offensive exploits helped steer head coach Tim Sinicki's Bearcats to 23 wins and a first-ever berth into the America East tournament. Bergeron led the league in three offensive categories and ranked among the nation's leaders as well.
He becomes the school's second Division I all-region selection, joining 2004 all-star Jay Balback.
The Northeast region encompasses 42 schools.
