OLEAN, N.Y. - Binghamton (13-10-1) struck for two runs in the ninth inning to win 3-1 and salvage a doubleheader split Tuesday afternoon at St. Bonaventure (10-10). The Bonnies struck for three runs in their final at-bat to capture the opener 7-6.

In game two, junior right fielder Jeff Monaco (Binghamton, N.Y.) laced a two-run single through the left side, breaking a 1-1 deadlock in the second extra inning and giving BU a 3-1 lead. Senior reliever Nick Bogdanoff (San Mateo, Calif.) earned the win with 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief.

Binghamton was held to five hits - two by freshman third baseman Kyle Klee (Rochester, N.Y.).

Sophomore Gio Yannuzzi (Binghamton, N.Y.) didn't allow an earned run in 5 1/3 innings of work. He struck out three and scattered seven hits.

In the opener, BU was on the verge of a win before St. Bonaventure struck for three runs on three consecutive hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bonnies were aided by back-to-back BU infielding errors.

Junior first baseman Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa.) belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning to erase a 4-3 lead and give the Bearcats a 6-4 margin.

Junior shortstop Justin Smucker (Bird-in-Hand, Pa.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Freshman left fielder Ken Jacobi (Milford, Conn.) hit his first collegiate home run - a solo shot in the second inning - and went 2-for-3.

Binghamton returns to conference play with a four-game set against UMBC. The first game is at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
