Binghamton baseball loses at Central Connecticut State, 11-2

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Central Connecticut State (14-7) scored five runs in the second inning and added three more in the fourth en route to an 11-2 thumping of visiting Binghamton (9-8-1) Sunday afternoon at Balf-Savin Field. The Bearcats were only outhit 14-12 but left 15 runners stranded in the nine-inning contest.

The Blue Devils knocked out BU starter Mike Van Gorder in the second inning with five hits and five runs. Van Gorder had entered the game with a 1.06 earned run average. Central Connecticut State added three more runs in the fourth inning and the rout was on. Twelve of CCSU's 14 hits were singles.

Junior second baseman Matt Simek (Vestal, N.Y.), freshman left fielder Ken Jacobi (Milford, Conn.) and senior center fielder Aaron Davis (San Francisco, Calif.) had two hits apiece. Simek collected an RBI single in the fifth inning. Freshman third baseman Kyle Klee (Rochester, N.Y.) stroked an RBI triple in the eighth inning for BU's final run.

Binghamton hosts Cornell in a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m.
