ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Central Connecticut State (1-2-1) scored four runs in its final at-bat to rally past Binghamton (2-6) 8-7 Saturday afternoon at Navy's Max Bishop Stadium.
The Bearcats took a 7-3 lead into the ninth inning but gave up five runs on three hits to lose for the sixth time in eight games this spring. The Blue Devils benefited from an error to open the inning and then received two walks and a passed ball to aid their rally, which included two unearned runs and a pair of two-run singles.
Binghamton stretched a 3-2 lead with three runs in the top of the seventh. Freshman designated hitter Shaun McGraw delivered a two-out, two-run double to spark the production. CCSU got one run back in the bottom of the frame but BU added a seventh run in the top of the ninth to forge the four-run margin.
Senior left fielder Jeff Skelhorne-Gross hit a solo home run in the third inning and wound up with two RBI for the day. Senior center fielder Corey Taylor went 2-for-4 with two RBI and senior right fielder Pete Bregartner, senior catcher C.J. Lukaszewski, and freshman shortstop John Howell had two hits apiece.
Senior James Giulietti had no decision despite a solid outing. Giulietti went 5.2 innings and scattered eight hits and two runs, departing with a 3-2 lead. He struck out five and walked two.
Binghamton plays single games against George Washington and Central Connecticut State on Sunday at GW.
