Release: June 3, 2008
Vestal, N.Y. Former Binghamton University baseball pitcher Scott Diamond (Guelph, Ontario) has earned a promotion to the Atlanta Braves Class A Advanced level, and is already 2-0 with his new team - the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Carolina League.
Diamond, who started the 2008 season in the Class A South Atlantic League, has had back-to-back strong outings for the first-place Pelicans. He tossed six innings to beat Frederick on May 24 and scattered four hits and one run over seven innings to beat Frederick again on May 30. In that recent outing, Diamond struck out six and allowed just a run-scoring sacrifice fly. He is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two starts in Myrtle Beach.
Before his promotion on May 18, Diamond went 3-1 with a 3.08 ERA in nine starts for the Rome Braves. He earned South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week honors for April 21-27.
Diamond signed with the Atlanta organization last August, and reported to its spring training facility in Orlando in the fall.
In three seasons at Binghamton, he totalled 14 wins and started 37 games - the most starts of any BU pitcher in that span.
