TEANECK, N.J.– For the second straight day, Binghamton (7-15) and Fairleigh Dickinson (4-17) split a doubleheader, with the visiting Bearcats taking the opener 6-3 and the Knights responding with a 3-2 win in game 2 Sunday afternoon at FDU Field.

In game one, BU rallied to force extra innings with a run in the seventh inning and then the Bearcats struck for three runs in the eighth frame. Down to the final out in the game, freshman right fielder Peter Bregartner (East Islip, N.Y.) singled to center field and came all the way around to score when an FDU fielder threw wildly to first on the next play.

Then in the eighth inning, junior first baseman Ryan Holley (Frankfurt, Ill.) led off with a double and two outs later, junior pinch hitter Ken Jacobi (Milford, Conn.) platged him with a double. Freshman catcher C.J. Lukaszewski (Kingston, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single and three batters later, sophomore left fielder Joe Charron (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) added a bases-loaded walk to push across the sixth run.

Senior reliever Khalid Afify (Binghamton, N.Y.) pitched two scoreless innings for the win and junior Greg Lane (Binghamton, N.Y. threw a perfect eighth inning for his second save in as many days.

Freshman third baseman Brian Ivan (Toronto, Ontario) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Lukaszewski was also 2-for-4. Nine different Bearcats collected hits.

In game two, senior Gio Yannuzzi (Binghamton, N.Y.) scattered six hits and one earned run over six innings. But FDU scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and the Knights held off the Bearcats, who mustered just five hits in seven innings. The Bearcats left two runners stranded in the sixth inning and then went down 1-2-3 in the seventh to end the game.

Charron went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the first inning - his fourth of the season. Bregartner drilled a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Binghamton is scheduled to host Marist in its home opener on Wednesday.
