N.J. For the second straight day, Binghamton (7-15) and
Fairleigh Dickinson (4-17) split a doubleheader, with the visiting
Bearcats taking the opener 6-3 and the Knights responding with
a 3-2 win in game 2 Sunday afternoon at FDU Field. Then in the eighth inning, junior first baseman Ryan Holley (Frankfurt, Ill.) led off with a double and two outs later, junior pinch hitter Ken Jacobi (Milford, Conn.) platged him with a double. Freshman catcher C.J. Lukaszewski (Kingston, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single and three batters later, sophomore left fielder Joe Charron (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) added a bases-loaded walk to push across the sixth run. Senior reliever Khalid Afify (Binghamton, N.Y.) pitched two scoreless innings for the win and junior Greg Lane (Binghamton, N.Y. threw a perfect eighth inning for his second save in as many days. Freshman third baseman Brian Ivan (Toronto, Ontario) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Lukaszewski was also 2-for-4. Nine different Bearcats collected hits. In game two, senior Gio Yannuzzi (Binghamton, N.Y.) scattered six hits and one earned run over six innings. But FDU scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and the Knights held off the Bearcats, who mustered just five hits in seven innings. The Bearcats left two runners stranded in the sixth inning and then went down 1-2-3 in the seventh to end the game. Charron
went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the first inning - his fourth
of the season. Bregartner drilled a solo home run in the sixth
inning. |
