Pair of Binghamton baseball pitchers earn America East weekly accolades
Groh named Pitcher of the Week after one-hit gem; Dennis shares Rookie honors

America East Release

VESTAL, N.Y. - After stretching its winning streak to five games, Binghamton baseball (7-5-1) was rewarded with two players earning America East weekly honors, the conference announced Monday.

Sophomore Zach Groh (Reading, Pa.) was selected as Pitcher of the Week and freshman hurler Jeff Dennis (North Syracuse, N.Y.) shared Rookie of the Week honors.

Groh, a 6-foot-1 righthander, pitched a complete-game one-hitter to beat Lehigh 7-0 on Saturday. He retired the first 16 hitters before allowing a sixth-inning bloop single to center field. He struck out six and walked one in seven innings. In three starts this spring, Groh has a 1.69 ERA. He has 17 strikeouts and only three walks in 16 innings. He also has allowed just one extra-base hit.

On Sunday, Dennis, a 6-6 lefty, allowed no earned runs in a 5-1 win over Lehigh - his first collegiate victory. He retired the side in order in three of his six innings and lowered his season ERA to 1.00 in three appearances. Dennis struck out two and didn't walk a batter.

The pair join sophomore pitcher Scott Diamond and junior catcher Pat Haughie as weekly award winners. Diamond was named Pitcher of the Week and Haughie was named Player of the Week on March 13.

The Bearcats host Niagara in a twinbill beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
