Binghamton baseball pitcher Groh ranked No. 2 in nation in ERA
Sophomore has 0.62 ERA, in midst of 20-inning scoreless streak

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton sophomore pitcher Zach Groh (Reading, Pa.) is ranked second in the nation in earned run average, according to the first installment of NCAA statistics released Tuesday afternoon. Groh (3-0) owns a 0.62 ERA, second behind only College of Charleston reliever Josh McLaughlin (0.53).

Groh tossed a five-hit shutout in his last outing - a 2-0 win over Stony Brook on Sunday. He hasn't allowed a run in 20 innings and hasn't allowed an earned run in 24 innings, dating back to the middle innings of a game against Fresno State on March 15. Since then Groh has tossed back-to-back-to-back shutouts against Lehigh, Central Connecticut State and then Stony Brook.

He was the America East and ECAC Pitcher of the Week for two consecutive weeks and also leads the conference in strikeouts per game (8.4) and opponents' batting average (.131).

Groh will start the first game of Friday's home doubleheader against UMBC. The Bearcats are 13-10-1 overall, 2-1 in America East play.
