The Binghamton baseball team has received a national letter of intent from Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa.), a high school senior who plays both outfield and first base for Wyalusing Valley High School. He will join the Bearcats for the 2003-04 academic year.

In his junior season at Wyalusing, Hitchcock posted a team-leading .417 batting average. He also had 11 doubles, three home runs and 26 RBI. Hitchcock has been named a Northern Tier League all-star three consecutive years.

This past summer, Hitchcock batted .620 for American Legion Post 534 with four home runs and 22 RBI. He was a Region 5 Legion all-star and was named All-East Pennsylvania American Legion. Hitchcock is also a three-time Keystone Games participant.

“Very simply, Brendon is a pure hitter,” Binghamton head coach Tim Sinicki said. “He hits to all part of the field extremely well and has shown the ability to drive the ball out of the park. Brendon runs well, is very athletic and has the ability to play both the outfield and first base at the Division I level.”

Hitchcock is the fourth high school senior to sign with Binghamton this fall. He joins second baseman Matt Simek (Vestal, NY.), pitcher Mike Van Gorder (Vestal, N.Y.) and catcher Pat Haughie (St. James, N.Y.).
