VESTAL, N.Y. Binghamton (15-21) scored four runs in the eighth inning to wipe out an 8-6 deficit and went on to beat host Le Moyne 12-10 in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon from Dick Rockwell Field. The Bearcats have now won five straight and eight of their last 10.
Freshman third baseman Brian Ivan (Toronto, Ontario) ripped two home runs and drove in five, and senior second baseman Ryan James (Wading River, N.Y.) added two hits, including a two-run shot. Ivan belted a leadoff home run in the second inning and added a two-out, two-run shot in the fourth for his third round-tripper of the season.
With BU trailing 8-6, Ivan delivered a two-run single in the eighth inning and freshman catcher Jeff Skelhorne-Gross (Mississauga, Ontario) added a two-run double to plate the go-ahead runs. Binghamton then added two more runs in the ninth, thanks to a two-run single from junior first baseman Ryan Holley (Frankfort, Ill.), the reigning America East Player of the Week. Holley extended his hit streak to 12 games, and has 18 RBI in that span.
Le Moyne kept close with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings before junior reliever Greg Lane (Binghamton, N.Y.) shut the door for his fifth save of the spring. The Dolphins brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth before Lane ended the game with a fly out to right field.
Binghamton, which was outhit 14-12 and left 13 runners stranded, used a season-high eight pitchers in a pre-determined midweek allocation. Freshman James Giulietti (Plainview, N.Y.) picked up the win with two late-innings of work. Giulietti (2-2) allowed two hits and a run and struck out a pair.
The Bearcats begin a four-game weekend set with New Jersey Tech with a home doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
