BU baseball swept in twinbill at Longwood, 6-5 and 4-3

FARMVILLE,
Va. Longwood swept a baseball doubleheader from visiting
Binghamton University Saturday at Lancer Stadium, winning the
first game 6-5 and taking the second game 4-3.
In game one, the Bearcats (2-7) led 5-0 headed into the bottom
of the seventh, but the host Lancers rallied in their final at
bats putting up a six-spot on six hits, a walk, and a BU throwing
error.
Senior starter Zach Groh (Reading, Pa.)
delivered a superb effort despite taking the no-decision. Groh
pitched six innings of scoreless ball, struck out seven, and
allowed just five hits.
Third baseman Ryan James (Wading River,
N.Y.) had a pair of hits and scored twice and freshman center
fielder Corey Taylor (Vestal, N.Y.).
went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead BU in the opener.
Longwood
would rally again in the nightcap, erasing a 3-0 Binghamton lead
with a four-run bottom of the third and making that lead stand
in a 4-3 win.
BU lefthander Jeff Dennis (North Syracuse,
N.Y.) took the loss allowing three earned runs in six innings
while striking out eight and walking three.
Sophomore Joe Charron (Schaghticoke,
N.Y.) finished 2-of-4 with an RBI and a run scored to pace the
Bearcats in the nightcap.
The two teams will play the series finale on Sunday beginning
at 12 p.m.. |
