FARMVILLE, Va.– Longwood swept a baseball doubleheader from visiting Binghamton University Saturday at Lancer Stadium, winning the first game 6-5 and taking the second game 4-3.

In game one, the Bearcats (2-7) led 5-0 headed into the bottom of the seventh, but the host Lancers rallied in their final at bats putting up a six-spot on six hits, a walk, and a BU throwing error.

Senior starter Zach Groh (Reading, Pa.) delivered a superb effort despite taking the no-decision. Groh pitched six innings of scoreless ball, struck out seven, and allowed just five hits.

Third baseman Ryan James (Wading River, N.Y.) had a pair of hits and scored twice and freshman center fielder Corey Taylor (Vestal, N.Y.). went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead BU in the opener.

Longwood would rally again in the nightcap, erasing a 3-0 Binghamton lead with a four-run bottom of the third and making that lead stand in a 4-3 win.

BU lefthander Jeff Dennis (North Syracuse, N.Y.) took the loss allowing three earned runs in six innings while striking out eight and walking three.

Sophomore Joe Charron (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) finished 2-of-4 with an RBI and a run scored to pace the Bearcats in the nightcap.

The two teams will play the series finale on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m..
