BU baseball defeats Longwood 8-3 behind James, Klee

Box Score

FARMVILLE, Va.– Visiting Binghamton (3-7) scored eight runs in the first six innings and grabbed the final game of a three-game set with Longwood (6-4), winning 8-3 Sunday at Lancer Stadium.

The Bearcats scored once in the first inning, three times in the third and added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to open up an 8-0 lead. That was more than enough for sophomore starter Murphy Smith (Clifton Park, N.Y.), who allowed just one run in seven innings of work. Smith (1-1) struck out six, walked none and scattered five hits.

Third baseman Ryan James (Wading River, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and junior shortstop Kyle Klee (Rochester, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Freshman right fielder Peter Bregartner (East Islip, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Klee delivered an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run home run in the fifth - his second of the season. James stroked a two-run single in the sixth inning. Junior designated hitter Ken Jacobi (Milford, Conn.) had a two-run single in the third inning and freshman center fielder Corey Taylor (Vestal, N.Y.) had two hits, including an RBI single in the third.

Binghamton next plays in the Villanova Baseball Tournament on March 14-16.
