ORONO, Maine - Maine (26-11, 9-3 AE) defeated visiting Binghamton (7-27-2, 1-11 AE) twice on Sunday, posting America East victories of 8-0 and 13-9.
In game one, the Bearcats were held to four hits, and Maine extended a 1-0 lead with seven runs in the sixth inning.
In the second game, the teams combined for 22 runs on 24 hits, but the Black Bears bunched 12 runs in two innings to build a comfortable margin. Binghamton led 5-0 before Maine scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Black Bears then batted around in the fourth inning, plating seven runs on seven hits and a BU error.
Junior left fielder Joe Costello (Ventnor, N.J./Cumberland CC) blasted a three-run home run in the third inning and wound up 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Junior center fielder T.J. Kowalchuk (Stormville, N.Y./Carmel) hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning, and freshman shortstop Justin Smucker (Bird-in-Hand, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) hit a solo home run in the first inning.
