Bearcats lose final game of weekend series to Maryland 8-0

Box Score

NORFOLK, Va.--After sweeping the Terrapins in a Saturday doubleheader, Binghamton (3-3) was defeated by Maryland (2-4) 8-0 on Sunday in a game that was shortened to five innings due to rainy conditions. Earlier snow in Maryland had forced all three games to be moved to the Virginia Wesleyan campus.

After reaching the Maryland pitching staff for 11 hits and 12 runs on Saturday, the Bearcats managed only three hits on Sunday. Binghamton's best scoring threat came in the third inning. Senior outfielder Tony Berube (Vestal, N.Y.) reached on a one-out single and senior infielder Dusty Edwards (Windsor, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch. One out later, junior outfielder Joe Costello (Ventnor, N.J.) drew a walk to load the bases, but a strikeout then ended the inning.

The Terrapins jumped out to a quick lead and scored in every inning. Maryland plated one run in the first inning for all the offense it would need, then added two more in the second and three in the third, before scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Bearcats are off until beginning a Southern swing next Sunday. Binghamton will play nine games in seven days during spring break, with competition coming against Brown, Tennessee Tech, Charleston Southern, Georgia Southern and Savannah State.
