Binghamton baseball well represented in NCAA statistics
Five different Bearcats appear among national category leaders

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton (19-13, 13-2 America East) has five players in the latest NCAA baseball statistical rankings, including three who hold down top-20 positions.

Junior third baseman Ryan James (Wading River, N.Y.) is 11th in sacrifices 0.34 per game. James, BU's No. 2 hitter, showed his offensive prowess Tuesday against Le Moyne, going 3-for-5 with five RBI. He also has 11 sacrifice hits.

Junior pitcher Zach Groh (Reading, Pa.) is 12th in strikeouts (11.5/game), senior first baseman Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa.) is 19th in batting average (.421) and is 69th in toughest to strike out with only eight strikeouts in 113 at-bats. Senior pitcher Mike Van Gorder (Vestal, N.Y.) is 45th in earned run average (2.23) and senior shortstop Justin Smucker (Bird-in-Hand, Pa.) is ranked 60th in doubles per game (0.39).

As a team, BU is 38th (out of 283) in doubles, 67th in pitching ERA (4.20) and 66th in W-L percentage.

The first-place Bearcats begin a a pivotal four-game America East weekend series against second place Stony Brook with a single game Friday at 3 p.m.
