BU baseball falls at New Mexico in twinbill, 30-2 and 8-1

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Host New Mexico (12-2) plated 38 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Binghamton (1-5) Saturday night at Isotopes Park. The Lobos win the opener by a 30-2 count and took the nightcap 8-1.

In the opener, UNM attacked BU pitching to the tune of 31 runs on 30 hits. The Lobos scored four runs in the first and four more in the second to set the tone. The hosts then poured on nine runs in the sixth and 10 more in the eighth.

Freshman first baseman Dave Ciocchi went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the third inning. Senior third baseman Kyle Klee went 2-for-3, sophomore right fielder Peter Bregartner went 2-for-4 and senior DH Ken Jacobi drove in BU's other run with a fourth-inning, two-out single.

In game two, the Lobos scored two in the second, two in the third and thre in the fifth to take control. Binghamton plated its lone run in the sixth frame.

Sophomore right fielder Corey Taylor went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the sixth. Freshman shortstop Lane Warner went 2-for-3 and Klee went 2-for-4.

Sophomore starter James Giulietti allowed four earned runs in five innings and sophomore Morgan Smith was solid in three innings of relief, limiting New Mexico to a run on two hits.

The teams conclude the four-game set with a single game at 2 p.m. Sunday.
