Immediate Release: March 24, 2011 LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Host New Mexico State (16-5) extended a 7-1 lead with 10 runs in the fourth inning and went on to beat Binghamton (4-12) 18-3 Thursday night from Presley Askew Field. The Aggies sent 12 men to the plate in the pivotal fourth frame and put up the 10-spot despite only five hits. The Bearcats took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when freshman shortstop John Howell delivered an RBI single to score sophomore designated hitter Mike Thompson, who had opening the inning with a single. But New Mexico State scored six runs on eight hits (six singles) in their half of the second inning to take the lead for good. The Aggies added a run in the third before exploding in the fourth. Binghamton scored twice in the seventh inning - on an RBI double by freshman pinch hitter Kyle Liner and an RBI single from senior left fielder Corey Taylor. The teams continue their four-game set with a single game Friday night. |
