Binghamton baseball loses to No. 28 Oklahoma State 11-3
Host Cowboys sweep three-game series

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State (7-3), ranked No. 28, completed a three-game sweep of visiting Binghamton (0-3) with an 11-3 win Sunday from Reynolds Stadium.

The host Cowboys extended a 2-1 lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then holding a 7-3 advantage, tacked on four more decisive runs in the eighth inning. Oklahoma State outhit the Bearcats, 13-8, and clubbed a pair of home runs.

For Binghamton, junior second baseman Matt Fernandez (Benicia, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in his first appearance for the Bearcats. Senior first baseman Jamie Boyer (Lancaster, Pa.) went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and sophomore first baseman Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa.) and sophomore third baseman Justin Smucker (Bird-in-Hand, Pa.) each had a hit and an RBI. Smucker and Hitchcock delivered RBI doubles in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, and Boyer stroked an RBI single up the middle in the seventh.

Hitchcock completed the three-game series with a home run, three RBI and a team-best .455 average (5-for-11).

Junior Jarrod Rampey (Rochester, N.Y.) absorbed the loss. He gave up six hits and five earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Binghamton returns to the diamond on March 5, facing Norfolk State and Iona in Norfolk, Va.
