Binghamton baseball stifled in 9-2 loss to Radford
Bearcats manage just three hits, slip to 1-4 overall

RADFORD, Va. - Host Radford University (6-7) shut down Binghamton (1-4) on three hits and stretched a 3-1 lead with six runs in the last two innings en route to a 9-2 win Saturday afternoon from Dedmon Center Park.

The Highlanders scored single runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings before BU countered with one in the sixth. But Radford broke the game open with a four-spot in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth. Binghamton, which plated its final run in the ninth, was outhit 14-3. Defensively, BU made three errors which led to four unearned runs.

Freshman pinch hitter Jeff Abrams (Rochester, N.Y.) picked up an RBI single in his first collegiate at-bat in the ninth inning and senior second baseman Matt Simek (Vestal, N.Y.) produced an RBI groundout in the sixth inning. Senior first baseman Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa.) and sophomore left fielder Ken Jacobi (Milford, Conn.) had the other hits. Senior Justin Smucker (Bird-in-Hand, Pa.) went 0-for-3 and saw his 17-game hit streak end.

The two teams will conclude their three-game set with a game at noon on Sunday.
