Radford, Va.-- Binghamton (3-5) rallied for eight runs in its last at-bat to post a 9-6 game 1 win against Radford, but the host Highlanders (2-8) settled the score with an 8-4 victory in the nightcap. The teams wound up splitting the four-game series.

In game one, BU trailed 3-1 heading into the seventh inning before plating eight runs on five hits. Senior right fielder T.J. Kowalchuk (Stormville, N.Y.) belted a three-run home run and freshman designated hitter Jeff Monaco (Binghamton, N.Y.) followed with a two-run shot - his first collegiate round-tripper. Radford issued four walks and committed an error in the inning.

Kowalchuk went 2-for-4 with the three RBI, senior second baseman Matt Caputo (Pine Bush, N.Y.) went 2-for-3, and junior catcher Chris Darling (Whitesboro, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore reliever Adam Shatkun (Plainview, N.Y.) was credited with the win - his second of the season.

In the second game, Radford broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and after BU put four in the board in the top-half of the fifth, the Highlanders tacked on two more in the bottom of the inning.

Junior shortstop Keith Ford (Broken Arrow, Okla.) hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning, and Kowalchuk and junior center fielder Whitney Powell (Virginia Beach, Va.) each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Bearcats travel to Lexington, Va. next weekend for a three-game series against Virginia Military Institute. The first game is set for Friday at 2 p.m.
