The Binghamton baseball team has received a national letter of intent from Chris Shores (Towanda, Pa.), a 6-3 right-handed pitcher from Athens Area High School. He will join the Bearcats for the 2003 season.

At Athens, Shores was a four-year varsity starter and Northern Tier League all-star selection. He was also a two-time team MVP and a two-time American Legion Region 5 all-star selection. In his senior season, Shores led his team to the Pennsylvania State Final Four. He concluded the 2002 season with a 4-2 record (including a 1-0 loss in the state tournament), a 1.49 ERA in 51.0 innings of work, 59 strikeouts and only 11 walks.

“Chris has great size and arm strength, and projects to be an immediate contributor to our program,” head coach Tim Sinicki said. “He brings a tremendously competitive spirit to our team, along with a fastball that reaches 88 m.p.h. on a regular basis.”
