LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Binghamton baseball racked up 23 hits in 12 innings and completed a three-game sweep of host Siena (7-19) with a pair of wins Sunday afternoon at Siena Field. The Bearcats (7-15), who hit as the home team, rolled to a 12-1 win in the opening game before grabbing the nightcap 6-2.
In game 1, BU jumped on Saints pitching for five runs in the first inning and outhit Siena 13-3. Up 5-1, BU added six more runs in the fourth and another in the sixth. The Saints were hampered by six errors.
Senior outfielder Corey Taylor delivered a two-run single to spark the production in the first frame. The Bearcats added six runs on six hits in the fourth. Freshman second baseman Daniel Nevares and senior right fielder Peter Bregartner each hit his second RBI single of the game. Taylor added an RBI fielder's choice grounder in the sixth.
Taylor had two hits and three RBI, Nevares went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Bregartner went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Junior Mike Augliera tossed seven innings of three-hit ball. Augliera went the distance, struck out seven and walked one. He only allowed an unearned run in the fourth inning.
In the second game, BU got two runs in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth to offset Siena's single runs in the third and seventh innings.
Freshman shortstop John Howell hit a two-out, two-run double in the second and classmate Nevares offered a two-run single to highlight the three-run outburst in the third. Junior first baseman Dave Ciocchi added a two-out, RBI single in the fourth to complete BU's scoring.
Nevares and Howell had two RBI apiece. Taylor, Bregartner and sophomore Jordon Smucker each had two hits.
Sophomore Jay Lynch earned the win with six strong innings. Lynch allowed three hits, struck out five and walked three. He only gave up an unearned run in the third frame.
In the three-game series, Bregartner went 7-for-11 (.636) with six RBI and a .643 on-base percentage.
Binghamton is scheduled to play a single game at Cornell on Wednesday.
