VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton baseball sophomore Jordon Smucker has been selected to the America East Baseball All-Academic Team, the conference announced Tuesday. Smucker joins nine other players on the team, which was chosen by a committee of sports information directors, academic advisors and faculty representatives form all nine member institutions.
Smucker carries a 3.34 GPA in the School of Management. He was a member of the America East Academic Honor Roll as a freshman and earned Commissioner's Honor Roll status this year. On the field, he played third base and hit .319 against conference opponents, which was third-best on the team. He had an on-base percentage of .407 in league play and also picked up two hits and an RBI at the America East tournament. Smucker registered 10 multi-hit games and hit .333 over the season's final six weeks.
"This is a great honor for Jordon and I am very proud of him," head coach Tim Sinicki said. "He is the true definition of a student-athlete. Jordon works as hard in the classroom as he does developing his baseball skills for our program. I consider him a role model for our current players and a guy our incoming freshmen should look up to and model themselves after."
After winning four straight regular season titles, the Bearcats (21-28) finished third in the America East standings this spring.
