STONY BROOK, N.Y. Visiting Binghamton (7-19, 0-4 AE) left 18 runners stranded in 16 innings and dropped an America East doubleheader at Stony Brook (14-11, 4-0 AE) Sunday at University Field. The Seawolves won 7-6 and 5-2, scoring all seven runs in one inning of game 1 and all five runs in a single frame of game 2.
In the opener, BU led 3-0 before Stony Brook plated seven runs on seven hits in the third inning - the big blow being a three-run home run. The Bearcats came back with three runs in the fourth inning but couldn't push across the tying run and left seven runners stranded in the seven-inning game.
Junior shortstop Kyle Klee (Rochester, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and freshman right fielder Peter Bregartner (East Islip, N.Y.) and senior center fielder Ryan James (Wading River, N.Y.) had two hits apiece. Klee delivered an RBI single in the third inning and a run-scoring double in the fourth.
Freshman reliever Morgan Smith (Clifton Park, N.Y.) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out a pair.
In game two, the Seawolves snapped a scoreless tie with five runs in the fourth inning, on four hits and two BU errors. The Bearcats scored twice in the ninth inning but left 11 runners stranded.
James went 2-for-5 with two RBI to pace the offense.
Binghamton hosts UMBC in a four-game set beginning Friday. The Sunday contest will be played at NYSEG Stadium and will be televised live on Time Warner Sports.
