Immediate Release: June 10, 2011
VESTAL, N.Y. -- Less than two weeks after the 2011 BU baseball season ended, 18 Bearcat players will suit up for their summer teams in eight different leagues spread across the Northeast.
Six of the players will compete in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, including junior first baseman Dave Ciocchi, an all-star for the NECBL's Danbury Westerners last summer. Joining Ciocchi on the Danbury team is fellow first team America East all-conference selection, sophomore pitcher Jay Lynch.
Three teammates will stick together on the NECBL's Old Orchard Beach roster: outfielder and recent Freshman All-American selection Bill Bereszniewicz, sophomore infielder Joel Stubbs and sophomore pitcher Joe Swindells.
Junior pitcher Mike Augliera, a first team all-conference selection in 2011, will have an opportunity to pitch for Falmouth in the prestigious Cape Cod League - BU's first entry into what is widely viewed as the country's elite amateur league.
"Our entire coaching staff works extremely hard establishing relationships with summer coaches and placing our guys in competitive collegiate summer baseball leagues," head coach Tim Sinicki said. "The summer innings our players spend on the mound and in the field, along with the extra at-bats they receive are critical to their development and our place as one of the top baseball programs in the Northeast."
The complete list of the 18 players and their summer assignments is below.
